Special Flights
The Federal Office of Civil Aviation has formalised the procedures for coordinating Special Flights. The details of such procedures are promulgated in VFR Manual (VFR RAC 4-0-7).
Please announce Special Flights according to what follows:
Flights within airspace class C and D are to be co-ordinated by the operator or the organiser with air traffic control service prior to execution. Such flights are as follows:
- photo flights and other survey flights
- transportation flights within CTR/TMA
- air displays / events in general
- repetitive sightseeing flights
- glider competitions
- balloon competitions (including balloon competitions for children within CTR)
- parachute jumping exercises
The application has to be addressed to the ATC Unit in charge

The application has to be addressed to the responsible ATC Unit not later than two weeks before the earliest possible day of flights, with an exact description of the flight concerned, using the form given. Whenever possible, the ATC Unit has to be provided with maps and route of flight.
The receiving ATC Unit will thereafter take the measures necessary to coordinate the Special Flight with other ATC Units concerned, including military units.
The operator will be provided with all restrictions and conditions by the responsible ATC Unit, including a reference number.
For the reason of safety and efficiency, not more than one Special Flight in airspace C or D at the same time per ATC sector can be accepted.
In case of heavy IFR traffic or other unusual situation the flight may be delayed, cancelled or suspended by the appropriate ATC unit.
