Safety is one of many services
Skyguide carries out new tasks competently and is constantly improving its services. Safety remains the most important maxim. Its activities are central to air traffic control in Europe. Today 45% of the flight kilometres controlled by skyguide are outside Switzerland’s borders.

The unique position of Switzerland in the international airways network is what makes the airspace controlled by skyguide so complex. It is surrounded by international airports and includes two of the most important crossing points of the continent. Skyguide is responsible for a large airspace outside Switzerland, and for good reason - the skies over Europe are in great upheaval. In future they will no longer be organised according to country borders but based on the requirements of users.
Accurate performance figures
Skyguide’s services are constantly being measured. Skyguide and the European Air Traffic Control Agency Eurocontrol are compiling accurate data daily. These confirm, for example, that thanks to selective measures the company has both increased its airspace capacity and enhanced the punctuality of the flights it manages and monitors in recent years.
Safety Management System
Safety is always to the fore in air traffic control. In 2001 skyguide started buiding up a safety management and has been systematically improving it ever since. This safety management system must fulfil all national and international standards such as those of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation, of Eurocontrol and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Today skyguide employs over 30 staff exclusively for the evaluation of safety-related data as well as safety controls and improvements.
