Over 80 years commitment to air traffic control
Wireless telegraphy was what existed in 1922 when the original company of skyguide was founded – and this was groundbreaking technology at that time. What followed was the history of a company which has made a considerable contribution to the development of Swiss avation.
2006
On 20th December skyguide is awarded certification for the Single European Sky (SES) by its regulator, the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).
2005
On 21st September skyguide becomes one of the first air navigation service providers in Europe to receive ISO 9001:2000 certification for all its corporate units.
2001
On 1st January, the military and civil air navigation services merge into a single authority responsible for the management of all of Switzerland's skies. In order to mark this amalgamation, unique in Europe, the company changes its name and is now called skyguide.
1996
On 1st January, swisscontrol becomes financially independent of the Swiss Confederation. The company transfers its head office from Bern to Geneva and moves into the new premises in 1998.

1988
In the course of a re-organisation, the air navigation service is awarded to a new company, swisscontrol, having its headquarters in Bern.
1948
In accordance with the Federal Aviation Law of 21st December, the costs of air navigation services will be borne by the Swiss Confederation and by the airports. In the interest of cohesion of activities, Radio Schweiz AG concludes contracts with these bodies in 1949.
1931
On 1st January, the Federal Office for Aviation transfers the responsibility for air navigation services to Radio Schweiz AG. During the Second World War, the company's activities are severely limited. It concentrates mainly on the communication needs of the Swiss Confederation.

1928
At the General Meeting of the Shareholders on 10th May, Marconi Radio AG is renamed as "Radio Schweiz AG (RSAG)", as this designation better reflects the Swiss and independent character of the company.
1922
The Swiss telegraphy administration makes an agreement with the English company Marconi's Wireless Telegraph, which leads to the foundation of the Marconi Radio AG on 23rd February. During the First World War, it had become clear to Switzerland, which had been completely encircled, how important wireless telegraphy was. At this time, the new company closes a gap in services.
