Pilots in ATCO training

The training standards of the skyguide training center are internationally recognised. For training and ongoing training purposes, simulator equipment is replicated as much closely to real-life air traffic controller (ATCO) workplaces as possible. Simulator exercises are supported by simulator pilots, who communicate by radio with ATCOs and thus simulate radio communications between aircraft cockpits and the ground. Air traffic can also be simulated according to the routes chosen by pilots. In this way, the various work processes at the ATCO workplace can be realistically simulated and trained.

Specific tasks

What does a simulator pilot do exactly? He/she

  • participates in simulation exercises;
  • communicates with the ATCO and ensures radio traffic during the exercise;
  • uses the simulator and adapts the simulated traffic's flight characteristics;
  • simulates and coordinates according to a predetermined script;
  • can be used as instructor in simulator pilot training and further training.

Conditions and qualifications

We offer simulator pilots an employment contract. Pilots send their availability and the planning office will distribute the work.

Minimum requirements:

  • Aviation knowledge: pilot license ATPL (also frozen) or ATCO basic training
  • Radio telephony: English IFR radio telephony
  • Availability: good flexibility to be planned according to the simulator shift operation hours.
