U-space Facility Maps (UFM): new vertical limits will soon be deployed in Geneva and Lugano controlled airspace.

U-space Facility Maps (UFM): new vertical limits will soon be deployed in Geneva and Lugano controlled airspace.

The UFM for Geneva will shortly be revised after new requirements were identified by operational and safety experts at skyguide. New UFM will be automatically deployed during the next software release.

What are the main changes?

Only the vertical limits (expressed in meters above ground level/AGL) may change. The UFM cells lateral dimensions will remain the same.

For Geneva:

The new version is more conservative (0m AGL) for the final approach protection areas, but it opens much more space (150m AGL)  close to the edges of the Control Area/CTR (yellow areas). The increase in the available areas for your operations south of the airport, over Geneva downtown (as shown on the third picture) is significant.

(Red = 0m AGL, yellow = 150m AGL).

For Lugano:

Skyguide will update the current map values (0m, 100m, 150m AGL – as seen in the first picture) to new ones more adapted to the local operations. Due to flight procedures and terrain, most of the 5km range will be set to 0m AGL (red area). However, the areas west from the airport (Curio, Novaggio, Aranno, Arosio) will be freed up to 150m AGL (yellow area).
