Technological disruption and innovation in ATM
The Air Traffic Management (ATM) environment is evolving: Drones and other disruptive technologies represent both challenges and opportunities for our industry. They have the potential to transform how we provide ATM services and to create huge benefits for all airspace users and society.
Switzerland’s Virtual Centre programme aims at bringing greater efficiency and flexibility in managing the European airspace, one of the busiest and most complex in the world. The challenge is to gradually transform the existing Air Traffic Control systems into a new service-oriented architecture while assuring the permanent availability of the systems.
Skyguide equally plays an active role as pioneer and facilitator in the drone industry. Drones represent an operational and economic challenge: skyguide must and wants to position itself as an enabler. Therefore, together with a number of partners such as Airmap and FOCA, skyguide is developing a system that will enable the safe integration of unmanned vehicles into the Swiss airspace known as the Swiss U-space.
To succeed in these pioneering initiatives we decided to look for more modern technologies and ways of working used in other markets.
This year’s skyguide business day will give you a glimpse into the future, a future with new players in our airspace. We will explore the potential of available new technologies and how the Air Traffic Management is making use of them to create value for its customers and partners.
