SESAR is the mechanism that coordinates and concentrates all EU research and development (R&D) activities in the field of air traffic management, within the framework of the ambitious European initiative on the Single European Sky (SES).
The Single European Sky, of which Switzerland is a member, aims to reform the European ATM architecture. In the recently published Airspace Architecture Study a transition plan towards the implementation of a single European airspace system has recently been published. This plan proposes a five-year course of action to optimise the capacity of European airspace by combining airspace design with available technological solutions.
Skyguide and Switzerland can play a leading role in the virtual centre approach, which is part of the study on airspace architecture and the establishment of a single European airspace system.
