Geneva, 2 June 2025 – As a precautionary measure, Swiss air traffic control Skyguide will reduce the capacity of approaches at Geneva Airport today, 02 June 2025, by 20 percent. This is a temporary security measure until a solution to a latent technical problem can be implemented.
In recent months, Skyguide has experienced seven malfunctions of a system that provides radar images to air traffic controllers. Consequently, individual work positions lost the radar image for a few seconds. This phenomenon occurred mainly in Geneva. The safety of air traffic was not endangered at any time.
As a temporary security measure, Skyguide reduces the capacity of approaches at Geneva Airport by 20 percent today, 02 June 2025, until a solution to the problem can be implemented.
Skyguide has already taken measures to remedy the technical issue and will carry out an update of the affected systems in the coming days, first in Geneva and then in Zurich. In addition, a task force set up specifically for this purpose is continuously analysing the situation. Skyguide regrets the inconvenience this security measure will cause for passengers and customers.
