Digitalisation is the way to cope with the increasing workload and cost efficiency during the Pandemic. Skyguide Academy is taking a lead role in introducing a Remote Simulation Environment for ACS- and APS Radar Ratings.

When the pandemic crisis hit the Skyguide Academy in spring 2020, 57 Students were undergoing rating training for Tower, Approach- and Area Control training on-site at Skyguide.

Considering the information and the timeframe given, it was hardly possible for the

Skyguide Academy nor any other European Training academy to plan for the upcoming COVID-19 restrictions.

The Skyguide Academy however has been able, within days after the Lockdown, to design a modern and location independent Radar Simulation training philosophy from scratch. We have been able to connect Student Controllers, SIM Pilots and Instructors from home using ROSE Radar Simulation Software and a Citrix Simulation Portal with SIM Client applications.

Delivering skills training remotely from anywhere just by internet connection is now possible.

After the successful transition to Remote Training, we have been running two parallel ACS and APS Ratings already for the second time. The students from last year are now in Unit Training and we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback.

As individuals, we are from many different nations, but within the Skyguide Academy we all share the same “can do attitude”.
